One hundred years ago Cecil Sharpe recorded details of the Grenoside Sword Dance whilst visiting Grenoside near Sheffield. The event was comemmorated by The Grenoside Sword Dancers, sword dancers from Thorpe Hesley Primary School, the Newcastle Kingsmen and Wath Morris. The January music night held on Wednesday 6th went ahead despite the freezing weather. Numbers were down but the evening proved very enjoyable nevertheless. Hopefully the next evening on Wednesday 3rd February will be back to normal.
Once again the team decided to support Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice with their Christmas Mumming collection. This year a total of £277.17 was collected in Wath and Wentworth on 11th and 18th December respectively. Wath Morris were invited to join Martin Gibbons’ 50th birthday celebrations providing a display from the Border Tradition. After the introductory dance the team taught the birthday boy and his friends how to dance “Dilwyn”, an exciting short stick dance. A good time was had by all.

The Woodman Sessions are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Woodman Inn, Swinton, starting around 8.15pm. The singarounds are informal and friendly, where singers, musicians, poets and entertainers can have a go!
