One hundred years ago Cecil Sharpe recorded details of the Grenoside Sword Dance whilst visiting Grenoside near Sheffield. The event was comemmorated by The Grenoside Sword Dancers, sword dancers from Thorpe Hesley Primary School, the Newcastle Kingsmen and Wath Morris. Woodman Session Survives Weather

The January music night held on Wednesday 6th went ahead despite the freezing weather. Numbers were down but the evening proved very enjoyable nevertheless. Hopefully the next evening on Wednesday 3rd February will be back to normal.

Bluebell Wood Donation

Once again the team decided to support Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice with their Christmas Mumming collection. This year a  total of £277.17 was collected in Wath and Wentworth on 11th and 18th December respectively. All the money was gifted and this superb total was evidence of the generosity of the people who were good enough to ask us into their homes –  make their donations – and also provide hospitality on the night.  This activity has become  one of the most successful and rewarding events on the team’s calendar over the last few years. Thanks to everyone involved.

Wath Morris at 50th Birthday Party

Wath Morris were invited to join Martin Gibbons’ 50th birthday celebrations providing a display from the Border Tradition. After the introductory dance the team taught the birthday boy and his friends how to dance “Dilwyn”, an exciting short stick dance. A good time was had by all.
